Kitchen Remodel
CD+B gutted a small 1940’s kitchen, removed a chimney and large fireplace, and opened up the new kitchen into the living space. We installed a large glulam beam in place of a bearing wall; patched and refinished the existing floor and installed new oak to match in the kitchen; created a seating area at a raised bar; made a desk area by lowering the cabinets slightly to get the countertops to blend into the window sills; and turned an adjacent basement door into a sliding barn door with a small pocket between the wall and lower cabinets. We also built custom salvaged-fir shelving, suspended from threaded rods, and clad the back of the bar/seating area with the same material. The asbestos popcorn ceilings were abated and skim-coated over fiberglass mesh.
